Materials and potions
5 ores · 5 essences · 2 scrolls · 9 potions
Ores and essences drop from brown chests in five tiers and feed the forge, enchanting, scrolls and potions. Potions are brewed at the Alchemy station from an effect and a duration.
Ores, essences and scrolls
| Tier | Item levels | Ore | Sells for | Essence | Sells for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | Lv 1–10 | 5 gold | 8 gold | ||
| T2 | Lv 20–30 | 12 gold | 18 gold | ||
| T3 | Lv 40–50 | 26 gold | 38 gold | ||
| T4 | Lv 60–70 | 52 gold | 72 gold | ||
| T5 | Lv 80–100 | 95 gold | 130 gold |
Ore feeds the forge brackets of its tier: 3 per Blacksmithing craft, 2 per Jewelry craft. Essence feeds the Jewelry forge, potions, enchanting, infusing and the Scroll station. "Sells for" is what Salvage pays per unit.
Scrolls
| Scroll | Sells for | Used for | Where from |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 gold | Re-roll or remove an enchant; replace or remove a weapon infusion | 1.25% of material results, so 0.5% of brown chests. Until the Enchant station is bought, a normal material instead. | |
| 60 gold | No effect in this build | No chest or kill gives one in this build. |
Stat and infusion scrolls are made, not found: the Scroll station turns gold and 2 essences of a tier into one scroll of that tier, which sells for the value of those essences.
Potions
A potion is an effect plus a duration. Only one potion is active at a time: drinking a different effect replaces the active one, and drinking the same effect renews it.
| Potion | Effect | Tier | Level | Opens after |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Health +30% | 1 | 1 | Start | |
Defense +30% | 1 | 1 | 2 brews | |
Fire Resist +30% Ice Resist +30% Lightning Resist +30% Chaos Resist +30% | 2 | 10 | 6 brews | |
Attack +30% Elemental Damage +30% | 2 | 10 | 12 brews | |
Haste +30% Cast Speed +30% | 3 | 25 | 20 brews | |
Penetration +30% Elemental Penetration +30% | 3 | 25 | 30 brews | |
Gold +25% | 4 | 30 | 42 brews | |
XP +25% | 4 | 30 | 56 brews | |
Move Speed +50% | 5 | 40 | 72 brews |
Percentages on Vigor, Guard and Might raise the stat by that share; Might's Elemental Damage covers all five elemental damage stats. The other stat potions add a flat amount, shown as the hero sheet shows it. "Opens after" counts all Alchemy brews.
Older names in the game's text
The game's text still calls the Potion of Resistance "Potion of Fortune" and the Potion of Sundering "Potion of Plunder" in places.
Durations
| Duration | Level | Essence | Essence tier | Rarity | Price × | Opens after |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 | T1 | Common | ×1 | Start | |
| 10 | 3 | T2 | Uncommon | ×4 | 2 brews | |
| 25 | 4 | T4 | Rare | ×12 | 6 brews | |
| 40 | 6 | T5 | Heroic | ×40 | 12 brews |
A brew takes the Essence count shown, of the Essence tier or the effect's tier if that is higher. "Price ×" multiplies its gold (see brewing).
Brewing
The client's own default is 2 potions per brew, but the balance file it ships with sets 1, so every brew costs twice as much per potion as the default would.
Cost per brew
A brew costs gold and essence:
essence = duration essence × the essence of tier max(effect tier, duration essence tier)
The potion price is 1,500, 17,000, 50,000, 150,000, 1,500,000 gold for price tiers 1 to 5. Each effect's price tier is its tier, except Swiftness, which is priced at tier 4.
| Potion | 1h | 3h | 8h | 24h |

| Swiftness | 15,000 gold Pristine ×2 | 60,000 gold Pristine ×3 | 180,000 gold Pristine ×4 | 600,000 gold Pristine ×6 |
A potion sells for the value of the essence that went into it: a Potion of Vigor (1h) for 16 gold, any 24h potion for 780 gold. 8 potions of one effect and duration transmute into 1 of the next duration.
Alchemy XP
XP per brew depends on the recipe level, the higher of the effect's and the duration's level:
| Recipe level | 1 | 10 | 25 | 30 | 40 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XP per brew | 336 | 1,236 | 3,816 | 4,976 | 7,746 |
Where materials come from
Brown chests only: 40% of brown chests hold one material, always a single unit, and blue and red chests never do. Each material result rolls like this:
- 1 Ore or essence53.5% ore, 46.5% essence, of the chest's material tier.
- 2 Richer tierA chance of 4% × (1 + Luck), at most 50%, moves it one tier up (to T5 at most).
- 3 Lower tierAt T2 and above there is then a 25% chance it drops to a random lower tier.
Luck is the party's Luck stat as a fraction (100% = 1). 8 of one ore or essence make 1 of the next tier (see transmute); Dispel and Fortify Scrolls cannot be transmuted.
Riftstones
A riftstone is the key to an act-boss fight: every fight on a map costs one riftstone of that map (see Rift and Colossus).
| Riftstone | Rarity | Drop chance | Sells for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rare | 5% | 300 gold | |
| Mythic | 3% | 1,200 gold | |
| Eternal | 2% | 4,800 gold |
Three ways to get one
- 1 Chest drop From stage 6 of each biome, a brown or blue chest can be replaced, whole, by a riftstone of that map, with the drop chance above. Red chests never are.
- 2 PityAfter 25 eligible chests without one, the next eligible chest is a riftstone.
- 3 Free stoneClearing stage 9 of an act for the first time gives one if you hold none of that map.
Veil Riftstones can be transmuted into a Breach Riftstone. Breach to Abyss is refused, because transmuting can never make an Eternal.
Not documented yet
- Whether the Alchemy level must reach a recipe’s level. The brew action itself does not check it.
- How potion bonuses apply in combat: to the whole party or to each hero.
